Decided to finally start selling 3d models and HDR images. First up is my model of a chair by Paulo Mendes da Rocha. It’s such a cool chair, I really should use it more often in my own renders! If I sell enough of these I might be able to afford a real one.
I decided to go with 3DOcean.net as they seem to be more focused towards quality than other 3d assets sites. Here’s the link to my model: Paulistano on 3DOcean.net
Would you recommend this over turbosquid? I never really tried to put my models anywhere else. I have some Alvar Aalto chairs on turbosquid and I don’t think I managed to sell a single one.
Only time will tell. Never tried turbosquid so cant comment from a seller’s point of view, but from a consumer’s point of view 3DOcean at least looks good!

I´ve showed my boss your model of PMR´s house and he loved it. He lived there for a year or so and couldn´t believe how much detail you´ve got. Really amazing..

3docean.net is not limited to just single items, you can sell complete scene setups too and you are all invited to become authors and make money from your hard work other then just client’s paying for the renders.

I’m looking forward to see the HDRs. I’m still using 360* images from CGtextures, they’re nice but nothing beats nice HDRs imo. Cool news Peter. I wish I had the gear to make them.

Lovely chairs. I tried selling stuff on turbo squid a while back and literally got 2 sales in 6 months or something. I think TS is mainly aimed at the gaming industry. I am going to start selling models but have left it for the time being to evaluate. Design Connected looks like a great place for Models but I don’t know how easy or accessible it is to just upload and start selling. Hurry up with them HDRs! : )

On the subject of HDRs, I’m thinking about uploading HDRs individually and in packs of 5 (discounted) how does that sound? Anyone got any thoughts?
Each HDR will include the HDR itself, plus 5-10 12 megapixel photos of the sky taken at the same time as the HDR
Dan, Design connected is nice, I’ve bought models from them, but i dont think its really an open marketplace. Would love to set up my own shop, but dont have the time just now, 3docean seems quite handy.
3dOcean does look great. Packs of 5 would be perfect. I would be looking for a set of day times. e.g. Sunny, Dull, Sunset, Evening. I shy away from sets of all Sunny HDR’s, I end up buying those individually.
hmmm so mixed packs better than themed packs?
I was thinking 5 dusk, 5 cloudy, etc. but I guess you would want a range?
Well, I suppose the option of one mixed pack. Best of each category yeah.

Sell some scenes without object for people doing product viz
With render settings for vray and some textures you can sell them for quite a lot.

Nice, I was thinking very simple like 2 walls, wooden floor + a window with the sun light coming in + sky HDRI for the background.
You could sell the scene as a pack (tex+hdri+sample chair) and have the separate elements available to buy also. The pack price could be a bit less the ammount of tex+hdri+sample chair. So its cheaper to buy the pack than the separate models.
Maybe each little scene could have a PDF with the settings (vray) explained.
That could help people with other engine to mimic the vray settings

They sell textures, and for each textures they got sample scenes
Its very simple scenes, they don’t share the scenes that’s sad
But its usefull, instead of doing a fake studio setup to show models you could have a photorealistic scene with correct linear workflow
